East Lothian Eleven are Catering for Life!
Eleven candidates have become the latest successes to benefit from the 10 week Catering for Life programme delivered by Borders College and funded by the Department for Work and Pensions. After previous courses running in the Borders and most recently Midlothian, this course was offered to participants in East Lothian. Following a well attended information day at Musselburgh Job Centre, 12 candidates were selected to progress with the programme.
Attaining certificates such as First Aid, Food Hygiene, Health and Safety and Computer and Online Basics, complimented by soft skill modules covering Employability, Healthy Eating, Interview Skills and CV Writing, the candidates formalised their knowledge as well as gaining confidence and preparing them for re-engaging in employment.
Supported by their Trainers and Work Coaches, the candidates marked their success at a Celebration of Success Event held at the Fisherrow Centre where the training was delivered.
Fiona Turnbull, Contracts Manager, Borders College commented “We were delighted to be given the opportunity to run this successful course in East Lothian. The course is for people out of work and looking to gain life skills and it was great to see how it has changed the lives of the candidates who attended – gaining confidence and getting back into a routine as well as learning new skills and achieving certificates for their CVS. We wish them all well for the future”.
Colin Proc, Employer Adviser and Service Delivery Coach, DWP explained ‘The East Lothian Catering for Life course is designed to help customers who require additional support with their confidence and skills for work. The positive impact it has on the participants can be very tangible, even if it meant only staying the distance and completing the journey with other participants. On completion, many customers now feel ready to take the next steps in their journey towards employment’
