Hammer out a new career with Carpentry and Joinery

Rhiann HamiltonRhiann Hamilton is currently studying on the full-time Introduction to Carpentry & Joinery course at Borders College. Aged 19 and from Innerleithen, she previously studied Sport & Exercise with the College back in 2018, before deciding to pursue her interest in woodwork.

Rhiann is passionate about her future career and knows there is definitely a place in the construction industry for females, and is excited to be following the growing trend of women picking up the tools.

Describing her course as rewarding and confidence-building, she wants to encourage her fellow counterparts into the workshop, saying: “If it’s what you want to do, don’t let anyone hold you back.”

A keen runner in her spare time, Rhiann has recently been offered work experience with a local joiner, allowing her to get a taste of what the real construction industry is all about.
