HND Year 1 Sport and Exercise Students – Hockey Festival Event
It has been a very difficult year for students to carry out practical work, but as restrictions eased the HND Year 1 Sport and Exercise Students took the opportunity to run a Sports Development Event in partnership with Fjordhus Reivers Hockey Club who play out of the Live Borders Tweedbank Sports Complex.
Janet Jack, Head coach at the club and lecturer at Borders College suggested the idea of running two Festivals at Tweedbank to the students so that they could complete their course work.
The students agreed and took up the reins, organising for the Club’s u14 mixed group to attend two Friday afternoons, the 21st and 28th May to play in small-sided games. The uptake from the club players was fantastic and overall 80 young players attended the two days to play fun, competitive small-sided games.
Lecturer Janet Jack commented:
"This was a ‘win, win situation’. The students were able to put into practice much of what they had learned which had been delivered through Teams online in Event Management, Sports Development and Sports Coaching into a real Practical situation. It also gave the young u14 players a competitive, fun environment in which to practice their technical and tactical skills that they had been learning through their club training."
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and look forward to having the opportunity of working in partnership in the future.
